The Junnikkala sawmill, which has operated in Kalajoki for 60 years, has been one of the largest employers in the area throughout its history. In addition to the export market and Finnish forest owners, the sawmill industry creates well-being through employment, the sawmill industry being a significant employer both nationally and regionally. Sawn timber is Finland’s fourth largest export item, with a value of 2.8 billion euros.
